Timers and the Create Event Node
Connect a Create Event node to Set Timer by Event to call functions on any object and set timers from inside functions.

Connect a Timer to a Create Event node to enable a greater deal of flexibility. This allows the Timer interval to trigger a Function or Custom Event from the Blueprint itself or another object altogether. In addition, it lets you create Timers within Functions themselves, where custom events can’t be placed.
How do I set it up?
- Add a Set Timer by Event node.
- Drag off its
Eventpin and add a Create Event node. - Connect the object that owns the function to the
Objectpin. Leave it as self for the current Blueprint. - Pick the function or event from the node’s Select Function… dropdown.
The dropdown only lists functions and events whose signature matches the timer, which takes no parameters. Thankfully, it also has two shortcuts for when you don’t have one yet:
| Option | Result |
|---|---|
[Create a matching function] | Creates a new function with the right signature. |
[Create a matching event] | Creates a matching custom event in the Event Graph. |
Frequently asked questions
Why does the Create Event node show an error?
The selected function got renamed, deleted, or its signature changed. Reselect the function in the dropdown to fix it.
Can I bind a pure or latent function?
No. Pure and latent functions can’t be bound, so they don’t work with Create Event.
Does Create Event only work with timers?
No. It works with any delegate pin, and Event Dispatcher Bind nodes accept it too.
