Drag & Drop Variable Modifier Shortcuts
Hold Ctrl or Alt while dropping a variable into a Blueprint graph to place a Get or Set node without the menu.
Hold CTRL or ALT when drag dropping a variable from the My Blueprint panel onto a Blueprint graph to immediately drop the Get or Set node. Without a modifier, the editor shows a small menu asking which one you want.
| Node | Shortcut |
|---|---|
| Get | CTRL |
| Set | ALT |
| Get and Set | CTRL + ALT |
Only the keys held at the moment you drop count, so you can press them partway through the drag. Holding both drops a Get node with a Set node 50 units below it.
Frequently asked questions
Why did ALT drop a Get node?
If the variable can’t be set, ALT drops a Get node instead. That covers C++ properties marked BlueprintReadOnly and an Animation Blueprint’s AnimGraph, which can’t hold Set nodes.
Why can’t I drop a local variable?
Local variables can only be dropped into the function that owns them.
What happens if I drop a variable onto a pin?
Dropping a variable onto a compatible pin creates the Get or Set node and wires it to that pin.
What happens if I drop a variable onto an existing node?
Dropping a variable onto an existing Get or Set node swaps that node to the new variable. The editor warns you if this will break links, and blocks the swap if the node has split pins.
